Chinsegut Hill Retreat
Restoring Real Florida on Historic Chinsegut Hill
In 2015, Hernando Chapter began to collaborate with the Chinsegut Hill Retreat to establish native plantings around the manor house. We started with foundation plants species such as firebush (Hamelia patens), chickasaw plum (Prunus angustifolia ), coonties (Zamia integrifolia), and Walters viburnum (Viburnum obovatum).
Since that time many changes have come to the hill, but most of the Florida native plants have established themselves in their new home. In August 2021 the Hernando Chapter entered into discussion on how best to restore and expand the native plantings to continue the process of giving the historic home a Real Florida landscape. We remain open to participating in this project.
